Recommendation for charging 2022 Nissan Leaf with Splitter Switch

2022 Nissan Leaf comes with an EVSE that has a NEMA 14-50 plug, and has the ability to select charging rates.

There are 3 rates to choose from for at home charging

6.6kw (27.5 amps) on a 240VAC circuit

3.3kw (13.75 amps) on a 240VAC circuit

1.3 kw(10.8 amps) on a 120VAC circuit

Thus there are couple of options for charging on a 30 amps circuit:

  1. SPS 01-031-01 or SPS C2-032 with 6.6 KW charging disabled. As 6600kw/240v=27 amps, which is over the 24 amps NEC limit for a 30 amps circuit.

    1. You can safely charge at 3.3 KW using the NEMA 14-50 EVSE that came with the car.

  2. SPS C1-011 or SPS C2-022 with a 24 amps 3rd party EVSE.

    1. This will allow you to charge at 5.7kw, which is 24 amps, the maximum charging rate NEC allows for a 30 amps circuit.
