BMW i3, i4 and mini comes with a 30 amps (7kw) rated EVSE, also known as a mobile charging adapter. The EVSE comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug and a NEMA 5-15 plug.

This means when used with our 24 amps Splitvolt Splitter, SPS 01-031 and SPS 02-032, it will trip the breaker, typically in about 1hr.

There is an easy way to change the charge rate from the car, down to 15 amps (3.6 KW), by selecting the reduced option.

This is what it looks like on the BMW

Very similar on a mini

Thus there are 2 recommended configurations

  1. Use a SPS 01-011 or SPS 02-022 model with a 3rd party 24 amps EVSE. This will allow the maximum amount of current (24 amps, 5.7kw) to be pulled from a 30 amps dryer circuit.

  2. Use a SPS 01-031 or SPS 02-032 model with the included BMW/Mini EVSE with reduced charging option set.
