Recommended charging configuration for Rivian R1S/T
Rivian R1S or R1T come with a 32 amps (7.68kw) rated EVSE, also known as a mobile charging adapter. The EVSE comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug and a NEMA 5-15 plug.
This means when used with our Splitvolt Splitter, SPS 01-031-01 and SPS C2-032, it will trip the breaker, typically in about 1hr if Amperage is not lowered to 24A or less.
Rivian allows amperage adjustment according to their manual
Thus the recommended configuration is to use a SPS 01-031-01 or SPS C2-032 model with provided EVSE from Rivian. Then lower the amperage to 24A from the car. This will allow the maximum amount of current (24 amps, 5.7kw) to be pulled from a 30 amps dryer circuit.
