Charging recommendations for Tesla

Tesla is very versatile when it comes to managing charging. It is very easy to set time and rate of charging from the car.

As of Q1 2022, Tesla has stopped shipping their Universal Mobile Connector (UMC) with their new cars. Thus customer will have to buy their own mobile connector, though it is often out of stock. See link for Tesla charging accessories.

If you are looking to share an existing 240V socket using Splitvolt’s Splitter Switch, here are couple of options

  1. Buy a SPS 01-031-01 or C2-032 splitter and use either the

    1. Tesla UMC with NEMA 14-50 plug adapter

    2. Any 3rd party, including splitvolt’s 40 amps charging cable

    3. Then set charging rate to 24 amps from the car, which is the maximum charging rate set by the National Electrical code (NEC).

  2. Buy a SPS C1-011 or C2-022 splitter with

    1. Tesla UMC with NEMA 10-30 plug adapter or 14-30 adapter

    2. Any 3rd party, including splitvolt’s 24 amps charging cable

    3. Then charging rate will be automatically set to 24 amps.
